A student asked the master, “How can I cure my terrible temper?”
“Show it to me,” said the master.
“I can’t just show it to you; it comes unexpectedly,” replied the student.
"Then it is not your true nature," the master said. "If it were, it would be with you at all times..."

Whew! Just what I needed to hear.
PS: I featured you a few days ago at Casa Hice. You have quite a fan base (duh) already, but maybe a few new followers!
Love you Braja!
Beautifully said.
That is well said. Claps.
Wonderful words of wisdom.
Ohhh, that is good. Awesome.
Illuminating answer!

Hello, thanks for visiting my blog. It was a thrill to get a post from a real yogi. Your blog is very interesting and an original. I plan on stopping by from time to time.
Wonderful way to start the Monday !!
And you know...my own favourite is this..
'when the student is ready, the master will come' !
:)
Can I use this story with a student? I have one particular boy who can be so hard on himself when he loses control. But he isn't always out of control...
HA! I was ready to sit up and pay attention for another student/teacher go 'round.
Ummm, I could probably show a little anger for the kid if necessary.
;)
That is good, Braja - I seldom lose my temper so I guess there is hope for me. In fact, few things make me really made but, those that do, ohhhhhhhhhh, they make me furious!
nice.
so how can i get rid of it?
You don't: you control it. It's not something that can be "gotten rid of." It's a symptom of being effected by the material energy, of losing control of one's senses. And to control the senses, one follows a broadbased process, not just one thing. It means controlling what sound vibrations go into our mind: the disturbing, agitating noise of life should be drowned at any opportunity with soft, meditative, and spiritually-based sounds, be it mantra meditation, chanting, singing, or devotional songs played in the background; prayer, quiet reading of scripture or philosophical literatures that enlighten the mind and heart; it means controlling what one eats, as the saying "healthy mind healthy body, and vice versa" attests to....foods in the mode of passion (hot and spicy or unhealthy) or in the mode of ignorance (flesh, etc.) are not the path to a peaceful mind, but food in goodness is: fatty, tasty, juicy, dairy, vegetables, fresh...like that. All these things are what we have control over----and it's all we have control over. The good thing? It works :)
And here's a sound that controls the senses----download this and you'll feel real peace :)

Regular contact with the Spirit of the Living God brings the fruit of self control.......a person with no control over their emotions is like a city without walls.....
Nice...and true. And within that contact there is a process....that's the beauty of it...
I need to print this out for my son .....
Oh. My. Gosh. That truly spoke to me. I really, really needed that... I think I'll paint it on my wall!
I love it!
That works for me!
Hope you had a great weekend.
xo
Love it! Wisdom at it's best! Control is really the one thing you truly own. Have a wonderful Monday!
Still doesn't solve the problem though.
Look up there, Bill....
Applauding the wit as much as the wisdom...
Love this. Also am downloading your chants - thanks!
And I love your comments about what you choose to let into your body - sound/food/etc. Very nice!
Mmmm...maybe. Temper, cruelty, sarcasm...all nasty little scorpions that avoid the light and not prone to perform on demand. But they are there.
Brilliant, Braja! Anger can become all consuming and totally rule one's life if left unchecked. I wonder how difficult it is for this type person to smile, even once in a while.
An interesting thought.
This is true. Your emotions don't choose you, you choose your emotions.
Well said! Have a sweet day!
Well now. I am loving this! I think this would go a long way in helping me deal with myself and others.
Nice thought!!
Such wisdom you share. I will wrap my mind around this thought today. Thank you. XXOO
words of wisdom indeed braja..no wonder v r drawn to yr blog...
Paired with that particular picture, that was amazingly moving. My ex-husband had a temper like I couldn't believe. I learned to just be quiet and try to lay low so as not to accidently send him flying into a rage. Blah!! Glad to be rid of THAT for sure!!!!
Just beautiful (as always) Braja!!
Loved that!!
Never had much of a temper, but I'm sure there are a few things I am crediting as being more integral to myself than they actually are. Worth investigating.
Ah - such words of comfort!
Great words! Divine....
Profound wisdom!
xoxo
I found you through the delicious Alix at Casa Hice and am grateful I did. Words I needed on a Monday.
funny and true!
In other words, I'm excused. Ha.
Interesting. I had never thought of it from that perspective before. Thank you.
I can have a pretty bad temper sometimes. It may surface before the evening is over!
This makes me feel so much better about myself...
A bad temper is our "Mr. Hyde", that vicious animal that resides inside us all. Some of us can keep the leash in place, others let it slip too easily. Control is very simple to exercise but so difficult to teach.
Smiter's block.
I shall tell my 10 year old daughter this quip the next time she slams the door in anger!
Whew. I'm sure glad to hear that. :)
THat is really deep! Wooooah...
Every parent should keep this in mind. Great quote.
Really nice one. If only there were more masters, and more folks who would seek advice, tempers could be in control!
